Madic's Training « Thread Started on Aug 2, 2007, 9:02pm »
Madic felt weary and worn, after several weeks of travelling. The cool shade was a huge change from the hot, dusty air of the Empire and the Hadarac, which Madic welcomed with opened arms. A nudge in his mental barrier prompted him to open his mind. 'How many times have i told you to stop closing your mind to me? We are supposed to be of one concious, or that's what you tell me.' The Emerald green dragon next to him scolded.
Madic cringed at the young male's tone. Even though he came to madic's elbows, he could still take Madic apart, elf or not. "sorry, Eridor. it won't happen again." Madic said out loud, trying not to make his other companion feel left out. 'You said that last time.' Eridor snorted, steam escaping his nostrils.

They had traveled for a good few weeks through the desert. Cirtolthiel, worn and exhausted, was gratefully delighted when she caught sight of the looming pines ahead. She looked it too; a bedraggled, energy-sapped look was on her face and her travel-worn clothes, though she tried her best to keep smiling and moving. Her silvery hair was pretty messy, and Cirtolthiel finally became so annoyed with it she tied it back with a leather strap. The look was definitely not her, but it didn't matter. Home was nearby.
Once they had reached the forest floor with the pinestraw bedding, she paused for a moment to pour the remaining sand in her boots out. She hoped the next time that she would have to do that wouldn't be soon again. As Madic and Eridor - the name Madic and the dragon had chosen, which fit him pretty well - waited, Cirtolthiel heard Madic say to Eridor, "Sorry, Eridor. it won't happen again." Eridor merely snorted.
Cirt guessed Madic had said something and wondered briefly why he had apologized to Eridor so formally. After pulling her boots back on and apologizing herself for making them wait, ("Sorry, just had to let that sand out - little pet peeve of mine.") they were soon on the move again. The made casual conversation, like always. Cirtolthiel was acquainted with them well enough that she allowed Eridor to speak directly to her rather than Madic relaying his words. Cirt was grateful they made it to Du Weldenvarden with no problem. And she knew the Queen would be pleased too.

Madic and Eridor paused to let Cirtolthiel let the sand out. "Sorry, just had to let that sand out - little pet peeve of mine" Madic chuckled and generally enjoyed the company. Small talk ensued, lasting much of the way.
During a period of silence, Madic noticed the paths in the seemingly-natural ground. curious, Madic's eyes followed them and, with some difficulty, picked out building shapes in the trees. after several seconds, Madic could see ellesmera in all it's glory. a pair of solemn-looking elves approached, with breastplates and swords. "What is your buisness here?" one asked clearly. Madic leaned over to Cirt and whispered "I think you'd better handle this."
Quickly, he looked around and, knowing what he was looking for, found Eridor blended perfectly with the bushes several feet next to him. The only thing that worried him was Eridor's stance, seeming ready to pounce at any sign of danger. 'you can come out now. They're elves.' Madic projected to Eridor. 'If i must.' was his reply. Eridor relaxed and walked out of the bushes, head held high. Madic sighed and stifled a chuckle.

"What is your business here?"
Cirtolthiel observed the elf, recognizing him somewhat. She smiled and touched her lips, while at the same time taking note that Eridor was concealed successfully behind her an Madic. Madic leaned close to her and said in a low voice, "I think you'd better handle this." She jerked her head to give a quick nod, and addressed the pair of elves.
"<May good fortune rule over you,>" she greeted. The elves stared at her with solemn eyes, telling no secrets. After a pause, she continued quickly in the ancient language, her words flowing like music. "<I am Cirtolthiel, of the House Erudwaedhiel, mesenger of our Queen Islanzadi. My companion is Madic, newest Rider of the Varden." The elves searched them with a long gaze again, and nodded to let them through.
Cirtolthiel turned back to Madic, and Eridor, who had finally revealed himself. She nodded to assure them they were allowed, and led the way into the pine-clad city. After a good ways of a walk, with curious eyes staring them down from the shadows, they reached the Tialdari hall. Cirtolthiel knocked on the wooden building, and after an elf went to answer the door and meet them, they were hurried in to meet the Queen immediately.

Cirtolthiel knocked on the wooden building, and after an elf went to answer the door and meet them, they were hurried in to meet the Queen immediately.
Madic Walked down the hall, one palm wrapped around one of Eridor's Emerald-green spines. Stopping at the queen, Madic gave the proper elven sign of greeting and respect. Madic and eridor bowed, then stood to look at the queen with curious eyes. it had been a long while since madic had seen her and Eridor had never before. "My humble greetings, Queen Islanzadi. I am a rider and a friend." Madic said, then repeated the latter to Islanzadi in the ancient language. 'And I am Eridor, Son of Melonni and Tanur' Eridor said.

After they walked in, the room fell silent. Madic and Eridor quickly introduced themselves, and Cirtolthiel bowed as well. The Queen observed them icily for a second before moving her gaze to Cirtolthiel and studying her. She then smiled at the three of them. "<Cirtolthiel, I am glad you made it back safely. Madic and Eridor, welcome back to Du Weldenvarden,>" she greeted. "<Cirtolthiel, is there any news from the Varden?>"
Cirtolthiel bowed before speaking again. "<No, Your Highness. We were very fortunate to have the egg hatch quickly when I transferred it to the Varden. Nasuada insisted I bring Madic and Eridor back here.>"
"And a wise choice indeed." She fell silent. Cirtolthiel blinked, then glanced at Madic and Eridor.
"My Queen, is my assistance called for any longer?" she asked. Islanzadi shook her head.
"No, Cirtolthiel. You are dismissed. I shall summon you when the time calls for again," she said. Cirtolthiel bowed once more and left, leaving Madic and Eridor alone for discussion with the Queen.

Madic nervously watched cirt leave. He was talking to the queen, after all. and after a seven year disappearence. Turning back to the queen, Madic let her speak first. "You have been gone for some time, Madic Aeril. You have left, leaving many friends behind, and come back in with the greatest honor. Welcome back, Rider madic."
Speechless, madic gave a greatful smile. He gathered his wits and spoke. "Thank you, Queen Islanzadi. We have come to recieve our training, as we were suggested to do. What exactly does this comprise of?" Madic asked. "You will be trained by Ellesmera's finest spellcasters and swordsmen. In between these lessons, you are required to attend a rider's history and code, given by Rider Oromis himself. When you are ready, I will Have an elf escort you to the resident rider's quarters, where rider eragon has stayed during his last visit. greatfully, Eridor is not yet as large as saphira." She allowed herself a quiet laugh, and madic chuckled. Eridor smiled, but madic could sense he took offense to that statement. "I could be just as great as Saphira, if not better." Eridor said to Islanzadi. Madic stiffened, somewhat concerned of how the queen would take to being spoken to in his tone. Islanzadi smiled wider and replied verbally. "Of course you will, Eridor. I have no doubts." Madic enjoyed a quiet moment, Eridor practically swimming in his pride. Speaking up, madic ended the meeting. "I believe we are ready to leave Now. it has been a long, uncomfortable trip, and i believe i have sand in my boots." He said cheerfully.

*mornig after Meeting Islanzadi*
Madic woke with a yawn, stretching his arms out. He sat up in the bed assigned him, in the quarters previously occupied by one of the most well-know riders. He gleamed and looked around the space. He saw Eridor snoring in the corner. Smiling, he walked up to the mirror and straightened his hair out with the brush lying on the counter.
He looked at himself, discouraged by the grime covering him. After so long in a hot climate nearly overpopulated with humans, he had lost some care for his cleanliness. Now that he was back in the city of the Elves, he felt a need to be clean of the dust and dirt. He picked a few choice words and used them wisely. He was somewhat disappointed with the results, having become quite rusty with the use of magic.
He sighed and washed off with normal water and geared up, taking a glance at Eridor. The dragon was watching him with one brown eye, emerald scales gleaming. It seemed the forest was restoring his luster already. Eridor stood and stretched, tail flicking to one side. A vase shattered and Eridor glanced at it sheepishly. Madic sighed.
"Are you ready for today? We can’t screw this up, so be on your best behavior, or what little you have left.” Madic said seriously.
“Of course I will.” Eridor replied, worrying Madic. He was smiling.
