However, the plot begins to thicken as Galbatorix makes a discovery in the catacombs beneath Uru’baen. He has found the legendary Vault of Souls in the area that was once Ilerea. Frantic after learning of the discovery, the Varden send Eragon to Du Weldenvarden to continue training under Oromis. In Ellesmera, under the Menoa Tree, he discovers an egg and entrusts it with the elves. During his training he returns to Du Fells Nangoroth - The Blasted Mountains. Among the cracked eggs shells from dragons of centuries past, two eggs are recovered. Ecstatic, Eragon returns with them. They too are kept with the elves. After his training Eragon returns to Surda to discover he has been thrust into a dangerous situation. Nasuada calmly but regretfully tells him he must pursue the eggs discovered by Galbatorix. Outraged, Eragon and Saphira are forced to sneak into Uru’baen with a small group of magicians. A month later a scout enters bringing news that one of the magicians has returned, bearing a letter from Galbatorix himself. Galbatorix has made it known that he has captured Eragon and slain Saphira. He demands they turn over the eggs the Varden discovered or Eragon would be executed. Facing the decision, the Varden chose the eggs over Eragon. Not long after Nasuada received a package. It's contents… Eragon's head. With that, the Varden became Riderless. However, the magician who had escaped from Galbatorix's clutches captured two eggs, leaving the Empire with only four. Since then, the Varden and the elves have been ferrying the eggs back and forth, desperately trying to get one to hatch. Word soon reached their ears that one of Galbatorix eggs had hatched and he was training yet another rider. The Varden was under deep stress. Miraculously, a Varden egg hatched, to Eragon's cousin, Roran. He has been appointed to Eragon's former spot in leading the Riders-to-be. His dragon is an emerald green - the very egg that Galbatorix had kept for so long. Thus, this is where the plot stands today. The Varden, being lead by Roran and Nasuada, have four unhatched eggs. The Empire, lead by Galbatorix and Murtagh, also have four eggs. The remaining four? Their whereabouts are still unknown. So they beheaded him and used dark magic to make him look like eragon but eragon could appear from somewhere where he had been held by heavy magic. Saphira could still be alive also. Saphira also though it would be interesting to see how Eragon would cope with the loss of his dragon.
